Research undertaken by WWF has prompted their latest advertising campaign highlighting plastic pollution and how much plastic people are eating.

The research showed that people are unwittingly eating on average up to 2000 pieces of plastic each week. The advertising campaign will put that into perspective with slogans such as, “It took you up to 1 week to eat this credit card.”

WWF has also set up a website where you can analyse your diet to see how much you are actually ingesting. The idea behind the campaign is a call to arms, encouraging the public to support a global petition for a governments around the world to “to sign a global legally binding treaty to streamline how we use and dispose of plastics. “

Marco Lambertini, the international director general of the WWF said, “These findings must serve as a wake-up call to governments. Not only are plastics polluting our oceans and waterways and killing marine life – it’s in all of us and we can’t escape consuming plastics. Global action is urgent and essential to tackling this crisis.”
