In the role, she will be responsible for expanding the communications network’s public affairs practice in the California market

Weber Shandwick has expanded its public affairs leadership in California with the appointment of Patricia Cooper (pictured) to Senior Vice President in its Sacramento office. Most recently, she was Executive Director of the California Biotechnology Foundation.

In said capacity, she spearheaded multiple education and outreach programmes to support informed policymaking around the life sciences industry in California. In her new role, she will be responsible for expanding Weber Shandwick’s public affairs practice in the aforementioned market.

Additionally, she will draw upon the firm’s extensive public affairs capabilities across a wide range of issues to provide counsel to new and existing clients. She will partner with the Washington DC, San Francisco / Silicon Valley, and Los Angeles offices to promote the brand’s offerings on a national scale.

Cooper’s past experience and vast expertise will come in handy. She has spent more than two decades working with elected officials, state policymakers, association leaders, and a wide range of stakeholders to inform sound public policy around healthcare, biotechnology, and environmental issues.

A seasoned coalition builder, she has directed and cultivated strategy, membership, boards, and sponsorship development for life science associations, the biotechnology industry and other organisations. She has also worked extensively on education, economic development, energy, and environmental issues.

“Patricia’s deep expertise in engaging constituencies around critical state and national issues, particularly in our increasingly complex political and communications environment, will prove invaluable to our clients and our growing team,” said Ranny Cooper, President, Public Affairs at Weber Shandwick.
