Following in the footsteps of Sainsbury’s and Amazon, Tesco is set to launch checkout free stores using AI (artificial intelligence).

The supermarket giant has been trialling the scheme using technology similar to the Amazon Go stores.

Working with tech company Trigo, the software would include a series of cameras powered by AI (artificial intelligence) that would monitor what customers were picking up from shelves and adding to their baskets. The customers would be charged as they left the stores. Customers would need to have an app downloaded and their payment details attached to the app.

Even though it isn’t ready yet, Trigo are confident they will be able to begin roll out of the stores from next year.
