Following the news that Twitter will be performing account deletion on dormant accounts, the social media company received many complaints with users protesting the move.

The feedback received highlighted the fact that Twitter would delete accounts of those people who had died. The company do not yet have provision for this, or a way to memorialise accounts like Facebook has for example.

Twitter put out a tweet commenting: “We’ve heard you on the impact that this would have on the accounts of the deceased. This was a miss on our part.

“We will not be removing any inactive accounts until we create a new way for people to memorialise accounts. We apologise for the confusion and concerns we caused and will keep you posted.”
