Instagram launch product notifications in a new update, allowing brands to promote new products, and users to set up notifications for when they launch.

The new feature will be welcome news to marketers who will be able to harness the ever growing trend of online retail. 

The feature will appear in Stories as new stickers and tags in Instagram feeds, allowing users to set reminders for product launch dates and see details of the new products ahead of time.

It is estimated that a third of the 500 million users per day Instagram have use their smartphone to purchase a product online. This new feature will allow brands to reach consumers even faster, and allow consumers to be one step ahead of their fellow peers in viewing and purchasing new products. 

A business blog post published by the social media platform explains the feature, “With more of these shopping moments happening on Instagram, we wanted to make it easier for people to discover and follow upcoming product launches from brands and creators they love. The product launch sticker in Instagram Stories and product launch tag in feed lets people set reminders for the launch date, preview product details and buy as soon as a product is available without leaving Instagram.”
