Facebook has announced a US$5.7 billion/£4.6 billion, or INR 43,574 crore, investment in Jio Platforms Limited, part of Reliance Industries Limited, making the social-media company its largest minority shareholder.

This investment underscores Facebook’s commitment to India and its excitement for the dramatic transformation that Jio has spurred in the country. In less than four years, Jio has brought more than 388 million people online, fueling the creation of innovative new enterprises and connecting people in new ways. Facebook is committed to connecting more people in India together with Jio.

India is in the midst of one of the most dynamic social and economic transformations the world has ever seen, driven by the rapid adoption of digital technologies. In just the past five years, more than 560 million people in India have gained access to the internet.
