Amazon will begin drone delivery ‘within months’ they announced yesterday.

At their re:MARS conference held in Las Vegas, the online retailer said that the drones would be able to travel to a distance of 15 miles and carry packages weighing up to 2.3kgs. Delivery of packages would take just 30 minutes.

Addressing the issue of safety Jeff Wilke, CEO of Amazon Worldwide Consumer said, “From paragliders to power lines to a corgi in the backyard, the brain of the drone has safety covered.”

Although it wasn’t clarified where the first packages would be delivered by drone, the US Federal Aviation Administration confirmed: “The FAA issued a Special Airworthiness Certificate to Amazon Prime Air allowing the company to operate its MK27 unmanned aircraft for research and development and crew training in authorized flight area.”
