Katy Perry recently partnered with the 2016 Staples for Students programme to raise $1 million in classroom projects via DonorsChoose.

Staples recently partnered with music icon, Katy Perry, to help hundreds of teachers in the United States bring life to learning through the brand’s 2016 Staples for Students platform. The programme fulfilled $1 million (roughly £822,000) in classroom projects via non-profit, DonorsChoose.

The company recently made said donation to the aforementioned charity, while the organisation itself has funded more than 800,000 classroom projects and positively impacted over 20 million students across America. With the stationery giant’s contribution, 1,072 such projects were fulfilled.

The support offered by the office supply chain has provided for 787 teachers in 402 schools with their classroom needs, and benefitted 98,609 students. Additionally, its customers nationwide donated more than $330,000 to the DonorsChoose cause in the lead-up to the back-to-school season.

According to the global company with a presence in 26 countries, the programme was driven by a statistic from the Education Market Association, which estimated that 99.5 percent of public school teachers use their own money to equip classrooms, frequently at a cost of more than $400 per year.

“We’re grateful to our customers and thank them for donating. It was a pleasure to once again team up with Katy Perry to raise awareness around the cause and to help teachers bring learning to life for students,” said Frank P. Bifulco, Jr, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing at Staples.
