A pair of First Officers secured a Guinness World Records title for British Airways after cycling across seven countries in just 24 hours.
Two British Airways pilots clinched a Guinness World Records title after cycling non-stop across seven countries. They now hold the team title for ‘Most countries visited by bicycle in 24 hours’. Starting in Croatia at 12:18 pm on 1 October, the journey ended in Poland at 11:18 am the next day.
The flying First Officers, James Van Der Hoorn from Cambridge and Thomas Reynolds from Tring in Hertfordshire, managed to clock up over 300 miles during the challenge which saw them pass through Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary, Austria, Slovakia, Czech Republic, and Poland.
The pair flies from Gatwick and Heathrow to five of the countries as short-haul pilots for the airline, which allowed them to train on some of the actual sections. They are aiming to raise £5,000 for Flying Start, the global kids’ charity partnership between British Airways and Comic Relief.
