Fortnite has teamed up with yet another big brand. The Fortnite X Balenciaga collaboration features new ‘skins’ in the Fortnite item shop which was to be expected. To top the cake, Balenciaga has released a new line of ‘Fortnite 2021’ clothing. With its designer name, the pieces range from around $400 – $1,300 and hardly by surprise, the majority of the line is sold out.
A similar concept took place in 2019, when Louis Vuitton launched a line based on the game League of Legends. Although the idea is not necessarily original, it has been very effective for both parties involved. If you know Fortnite, you will know they tend to go above and beyond in terms of advertisement.
Past collaborations include the brand teaming up with stars like Travis Scott and Marshmallow. They have also worked closely with DC comics in the past, as well as with Marvel and Star Wars. Looking back at more fashion related collabs, the brand has worked with Air Jordan and even the National Football League.
What’s on offer?
For their most recent collaboration, Fortnite has released four different Balenciaga skins that are available for purchase via the item store feature in the game (Unchained Ramirez, Shady Doggo, Fashion Banshee, and Game Knight). The skins feature original outfit designs courtesy of Balenciaga, along with a couple of skins fans of the game will know and love. However, the skins are now donning the new Balenciaga X Fortnite line.
This is an example of a collaboration between two companies that just makes sense. The response has been phenomenal considering the differences in the two brands’ audiences. We can assume that Fortnite will continue to break barriers as a brand and set a new, more diverse and interesting experience for its players in the gaming community.
