Tide, the first Procter & Gamble brand to debut such an offering, has created Eco-Box to simplify e-commerce and reduce shipping footprint.

Tide has re-imagined its classic liquid detergent with the entry of Eco-Box. Developed for e-commerce and a lighter shipping footprint, it contains an ultra-concentrated formula that arrives on the shopper’s doorstep sealed, with a perforated cardboard flap on the inside.

Included in the redesign is a dosing cup and no-drip twist tap. To simplify extraction, the package features a pull-out stand to raise add the box height, ensuring the cup fits easily under the tap. The move eliminates the use of multiple layers like boxing and bubble wrap.

Since such materials are usually discarded by the consumer, the Eco-Box by Tide increases efficiency on all fronts. From manufacturing site to warehouse to doorstep, each stage is covered. It uses 60 percent less plastic, 30 percent less water, and less wrapping.

Since the design takes up less space while the improved formula is lighter, more laundry loads fit on fewer delivery trucks. The new offering by Tide marks the first product launch from the e-commerce innovation group operated under Procter & Gamble.

“The last mile is the biggest challenge economically and ecologically in e-commerce. The Eco-Box keeps the convenience of online shopping for consumers but reduces the impact of that convenience on our environment,” said Isaac Hellemn, Brand Manager for eCommerce Innovation under P&G’s Fabric Care.
