Burger King has introduced a new quarter-pound flamed-grilled beef sandwich. The Nightmare King is clinically-proven to cause nightmares.

Burger King is adding a spooky twist to Halloween with the launch of the Nightmare King, a quarter-pound flame-grilled beef sandwich designed to disturb dreams. Clinically tested, it is based on an unusual study that saw 100 human subjects observed across ten days.

Outwardly chilling in appearance, the beef product features a crispy chicken fillet, melted American cheese, thick-cut bacon, creamy mayonnaise, and onions inside a glazed green sesame seed bun. To confirm its impact, the brand enlisted the help of research partners.

Paramount Trials and Florida Sleep & Neuro Diagnostic Services and Goldforest were engaged to conduct scientific testing over ten nights. For the process, participants had to each eat the Nightmare King and go to bed. Then, their responses were monitored closely.

“According to previous studies, four percent of the population experiences nightmares on any given night. But, after eating the Nightmare King, the data obtained indicated that the incidence of nightmares increased by 3.5 times,” said Dr. Jose Gabriel Medina, Somnologist and the study’s lead researcher.

Tracking various signals from the individuals such as heart rate, brain activity, and breath, a group of scientists and doctors identified if vivid dreams were had. They determined that the unique combination of cheese and proteins caused a disruption of rapid eye movement cycles.

REM sleep is when people experience the majority of their dreams. One subject dreamt of a figure of a snake. Another encountered a dream starring an alien. Scarier still is that Burger King is offering the limited-edition item at participating restaurants only until stocks last.
