ABInBev’s Aguila Beer creates ‘The Official Flag of Beer’ with MullenLowe SSP3 to celebrate International Beer Day

To celebrate International Beer Day, ABInBev’s Aguila Beer, Colombia’s beer brand, has created ‘The Official Flag of Beer’ to honour the golden liquid. The symbol will ignite a movement that will invite people to share their reasons for celebrating with beer on its official day.

MullenLowe SSP3 creative directors, Diego Muñoz and Juan David Pardo said: “Despite the fact that International Beer Day has been celebrated globally for a number of years, and that beer is one of the most popular beverages in the world, we realised there was no symbol to represent it. Using just two colours on the flag, we’ve created a symbol that will allow people all over the world express the love that they have for beer.”

From today, people can visit the Aguila website to share their dedications to the beverage on a flag that looks like a beer. The image can be shared via social media using a dedicated hashtag, #ABeerToastForTheBeer – or #BrindoPorLaCerveza in Spanish. Led by Aguila Beer, the initiative has now seen a number of prominent beer brands join the campaign such as Corona, Budweiser, Stella Artois, Beck’s, Club Colombia, Pilsen, Costeña, Cola&Pola and Poker amongst others.

Aguila Beer brand manager, Juan Camilo López, adds: “Even though our reasons for celebrating and ways to celebrate have changed over the past few months, beer still holds a special place in many people’s lives. That’s why we wanted to create an icon to honour the famous beverage and symbolise everything that defines it as more than a popular beverage – unity, joy and celebration. What better way to celebrate the drink that has allowed us to celebrate all of these years?”
