Visit Wales has added Luke Evans to its Year of Legends cast of celebrity spokespersons. His first appearance is in an ad for the UK.

Visit Wales has appointed Beauty and the Beast star, Luke Evans, as the latest addition to its lineup of ambassadors for the brand’s 2017 Year of Legends tourism campaign. The push rekindles the country’s storied past with attractions and goings-on designed to draw travellers to stand-out locations nationwide.

The Hollywood actor joins a cast of Welsh celebrities including Game of Thrones icon, Iwan Rheon, and songstress-presenter, Cerys Matthews, who were both installed as spokespersons in January. They will promote their homeland as a nation whose rich storytelling tradition contributed to legends like King Arthur and the myths of Avalon as well as literary works like Alice in Wonderland and Lord of The Rings.

Evans’ first appearance as a Year of Legends brand ambassador is in a new Visit Wales promotional video, which celebrates Wales’ myths and legends, while inviting tourists to the destination to “Find your epic deep in the soul of Wales.” Currently on YouTube, the spot will air as an advertisement in the UK.

His introduction fell on St David’s Day, which commemorates the country’s patron saint, who was born in the sixth century, grew up to be Archbishop of Wales, and performed miracles throughout his life. Before his death on 1 March, he encouraged his followers to “do the little things you have seen me do”—a sentiment of kindness that lives on in Wales throughout the year.
