The 2019 Wimbledon Championships begin in just under three weeks. The #JoinTheStory multimedia campaign launched by the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) showcases the outstanding moments in the history of the competition as well as the world. The advert combines newspaper headlines and humankind’s achievements alongside record breaking firsts from Wimbledon.

Snippets include Amelia Earheart becoming the first solo female pilot to fly across the Atlantic, Althea Gibson becoming the first black woman to win Wimbledon, the first steps on the summit of Everest, and first steps on the moon, broadcasting live television in colour, Pete Sampras becoming champion and Roger Federer at his peak.

James Ralley, Head of Commercial and Brand for the AELTC said, “The story of Wimbledon began in 1877 and we’ve been making headlines ever since. Each tournament creates new heroes and new stories; while our greatest moments have shared the front page with two world wars, the moon landings and the invention of the Internet.”

“This global campaign truly celebrates Wimbledon’s ongoing role at the forefront of world news and events – and shows that when it comes to sporting achievement the best is yet to come.”
