The Cannes Lions rankings and analysis from its annual Creativity Report has been released, with 61 countries taking home trophies.

The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity received 43,101 entries from 91 countries in 2016. The 24 awards were judged by 387 jurors, with the rankings and analysis from the annual Creativity Report newly released and 61 countries in total taking home trophies.

Showcasing winning work, the report highlights the most creative countries, cities, agencies, networks as well as trends and themes at the heart of branded communications. In addition, the results from Cannes Lions, Lions Health, Lions Innovation, and Lions Entertainment were incorporated.

Asia Pacific’s rise through the ranks has seen Auckland secure fourth place, increasing from nineteenth place in 2015. Tokyo took sixth place, Melbourne sixteenth, Bangkok seventeenth, and Mumbai twentieth. Sydney observed a decline, dropping from last year’s ninth position to thirteenth.

New York has remained the top city, with London in second place and São Paulo in third. Across the client listings, Samsung snagged first place, Burger King second, while Microsoft third. Meanwhile, the year proved a strong one for emerging markets with first-time participation from Moldova.

El Salvador, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, and Croatia stole a first Lion, while Taiwan won Gold in Entertainment. South America’s Maruri Grey, Guayaquil, Ecuador (second); JWT Costa Rica, San José (fifth); Grey Brazil, São Paulo (eighth); and McCann Lima, Peru (eleventh) aced Innovation.

Three Brazilian agencies joined the top rankings for Health Agency of the Year—Havas Life, São Paulo (sixth); Triunfo Sudler Brasil, Campinas (twelfth); and McCann Health, São Paulo (seventeenth). Creatives were also ranked to include art directors, copywriters, creative directors, and directors.

The Cannes Lions also celebrated Nicolas Hardy as top director, a first for Argentina, while Atul Kattukaran is today the first Indian director to rank in the top 10.
