Dolce & Gabbana and Smeg collaboration of beautiful kitchen appliances

Dolce & Gabbana’s newest collaboration will give fans a very practical way to sport its gorgeous designs in everyday life. Following in the wake of the successful ‘Refrigerator of Art collection’ which saw the introduction of colourful Smeg FAB fridges at EuroCucina in 2016, fashion powerhouse Dolce & Gabbana has once again joined forces with Smeg to create a remarkable collection of Sicily inspired small appliances.

Similarly to the custom FAB fridges which were hand painted by Sicilian artists, the collection, dubbed ‘Sicily Is My Love’, comprises Smeg’s toasters, kettles, blenders, stand mixers and coffee machines, all of which have been richly decorated with the fruit, landscapes and icons Sicily is famous for.

The meticulously hand painted images include golden lemons, prickly pears, bright red cherries framed by traditional, triangular ‘crocchi’ motifs, coastal flowers, Mt. Etna, the ruins of the Greek temple of Castor and Pollux and the famous Trinacria as depicted on the Sicilian flag.

The appliances were exhibited for the first time at the recent Salone del Mobile in Milan where they were praised for capturing the spirit of Sicily’s rich heritage while staying true to their function. In essence, the appliances are functional works of art. Importantly, the collection highlights Smeg’s commitment to Italian made products and ongoing collaboration with the world of art and fashion which continues to set the brand apart.

A limited number of appliances were produced for the Salone and should be available for sale over Christmas 2017 in Italy. According to Applico, the exclusive importer for Smeg in New Zealand, the appliances may be available in the country in 2018 but this has yet to be confirmed. Retail prices have also yet to be established. If the Refrigerator of Art fridges are anything to go by though, approximately £27,000 per fridge, it is probably a good idea to start saving now if you want to see one of these beautiful, bespoke appliances on your kitchen shelf.
